The Long Hair Long Life Tour in Austin, Texas

On Monday, June 16th, 2025, Peach Pit and Briston Maroney made a long awaited stop in Austin, Texas on their highly anticipated joint tour called “The Long Hair Long Life Tour.”

The acts were supported by the band “BNNY” (pronounced bunny). Based in Chicago Illinois, BNNY was started in 2017 by singer Jessica Viscius. She is accompanied by Alexa Viscius, her twin sister, and musicians Adam Schubert, Tim Makowski, and Matt Pelky. BNNY has a unique sound– very soft and airy, met with an intensely beautiful grungy vibe. According to Jessica Viscius, their most recent album, One Million and Three Love Songs features ideas of “deep romantic love, breathy lust, generous self-love– and their opposites, self-loathing, resentment, and disappointment…” This raw and emotional album follows other releases, including their debut album Everything, which was written in the wake of the death of Jessica’s partner, Trey Guber. The entire album is incredibly vulnerable, and it concludes with a raw voice memo of Jessica and Trey singing together. BNNY was equally as talented on stage as they are in their releases and performed a fantastic set of their original music, including a unique cover of “Undone (Sweater Song)” by Weezer.

Briston Maroney was next on the bill and delivered an amazing set, full of his original music both from his early days and from his new album. Maroney is an American Singer/Songwriter from Knoxville, Tennessee. His “in” to the music industry was his appearances on American Idol, although he only made it as far as being one of the 30 semifinalists. He opened with “Real Good Swimmer,” the third track on his new album JIMMY. Maroney’s new album explores new musical motifs including grungier and “harder” instrumentals while also continuing to write in his classic and iconic “Briston Maroney” style. Maroney continued his set with some of his older music including his 2022 single “Paradise,” and “Small Talk” from the 2019 album, Indiana. The physical stage during Maroney’s set was decorated with elaborate foliage props that heavily reflect the aesthetic of his new album. The set was also politically charged with both the kick drum and a guitar having “F*ck ICE” written on them in electrical tape. Maroney also performed a song with an acoustic guitar, accompanied by Dougal McLean, of Peach Pit, who played the violin.

Headlining the tour was Peach Pit, a popular Indie Pop band from Vancouver, British Columbia. Formed in 2016, Peach Pit consists of guitarist and vocalist Neil Smith, lead guitarist, Christopher Vanderkooy, bassist Peter Wilton, drummer Mikey Pascuzz, and synth/violinist Dougal McLeani. Quickly into their set, Peach Pit revealed that their Austin, Texas fans had been berating them on social media to come to their city. This concert would be their first (of hopefully many) tour stops in Austin. Like Briston Maroney, Peach Pit performed music from both their early days and from their brand new album: Magpie. They played songs like “Shampoo Bottles” from their 2020 album You and Your Friends, “Alrighty Aphrodite” from the 2018 album Being So Normal, and “Give Up Baby Go” from their 2022 album, From 2 to 3. Peach Pit also played a cover of “What Once Was” by Her’s.

Peach Pit was called back onstage for an encore, where Neil Smith came back onstage with just an acoustic guitar, where he performed the self-titled single “Peach Pit.” Neil explained the story of how Peach Pit came to be. He said when he was around 19 or 20, Christopher Vanderkooy moved into his neighborhood. Neil talked about how he had always wanted to be in a band and how badly he wanted to ask Chris to be in a band with him although he was too nervous. One weekend, they went to a music festival together, and with the encouragement of some party drugs, Neil sat down and played “Peach Pit’ for Chris, and that's how Peach Pit was born. The acoustic version of this song following the heartfelt storytelling by Neil created a very intimate atmosphere in the amphitheater, and allowed for a deeper appreciation of Peach Pit and their music.

Briston Maroney and Peach Pit’s performances complimented each other perfectly, which made for an amazing night of music and entertainment.
