New York Based Artist Sweetbreads Releases New Single “Open Mic”

NYC based singer-songwriter Melody Stolpp, known as Sweetbreads, released her new single, “Open Mic” last Friday. This release followed recent double single “Ben/Satisfy” for her fourth album, Punisher of Love.

“Open Mic” explores the empathy one feels towards those close to them. It highlights the feeling of wanting to understand the pain that the people around you feel, and how they deal with that pain. Sometimes, you never know what someone is going through until it's presented right in front of you. The singer was inspired to write the single after an open mic that she was going to perform at, where she then witnessed a friend struggling with addiction. The event led to self-reflection, and that is what led to the creation of “Open Mic.”

“Watching my friend struggle made me think about my own obsessions and addictions, and the things we all cling to in order to escape reality,” said Sweetbreads. Along with her pensive lyrics, Sweetbread encapsulates her emotions through her captivating vocals and melancholy instrumentals, allowing her message to resonate with listeners. 

Since focusing on her music career in 2020, Sweatbreads has built a growing creative community of her own in New York City. This community will continue to grow as Sweatbreads shares her music, and she will soon release her forthcoming album, Punisher of Love on September 25th.
