Harry Styles’ Highly Anticipated Album - Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally
On March 6, British pop star Harry Styles released his highly anticipated fourth studio album, Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally. Since first rising to fame with One Direction in 2010, Styles has become one of the most recognizable figures in modern pop, winning over fans with both his charismatic personality and evolving musical style.
After the band went on hiatus in 2016, Styles launched his solo career with the dramatic pop ballad, “Sign of the Times”, and his self-titled debut album. He followed it up with two award winning records, Fine Line and Harry’s House, both which helped establish him as a huge force in the music industry.
For the past four years, fans speculated that the singer had been quietly working on his next project, turning the phrase “HS4 at midnight!” into a running inside joke within the fandom.
After a few years of silence online, Styles returned on December 27 with an eight minute video on YouTube titled Forever, Forever. Around the same time, posters with the phrase “We Belong Together” began appearing in cities across the world, prompting speculation that a new era was about to begin. On January 15, Styles officially confirmed the rumors, announcing the new album on Instagram. A few days later he revealed the lead single, “Aperture,” and invited fans to attend exclusive “First Listen” parties in select cities where they could hear the track a day before its official release.
Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally introduces a new sound for Styles. In an interview with BBC Radio 1, he explained that the album was partly inspired by seeing LCD Soundsystem perform live.
“I went to see LCD Soundsystem a couple times,” Styles said. “I saw them at a festival in Madrid that was basically in a car park and then again at Brixton. It’s just so joyous. Watching them be so immersed in it made me think, ‘That’s how I want to feel when I’m on stage.’ And that kind of led to the music I was making.”
The album opens with “Aperture,” setting the tone for the album before transitioning into “American Girls,” a slower track with a smooth catchy chorus. From there, the record quickly picks up with upbeat songs like “Ready, Steady, Go!”, “Are You Listening Yet?”, and “Season 2 Weight Loss,” which lean into a more vibrant up-tempo beat.
However, the album also makes room for quieter and more reflective moments. Songs like “Taste Back,” “The Waiting Game,” “Coming Up Roses,” and “Painting By Numbers” show a more personal side of Harry’s songwriting. True to its title, the album balances kissing all the time with discoing occasionally. Tracks like “Pop” and “Dance No More” bring disco inspired beats and funky grooves that make the record feel both buoyant and fresh.
Styles didn’t just announce new music earlier this year, he also announced his upcoming world tour, Together, Together. The tour will feature residency style runs in seven major cities around the world. Styles is set to perform twelve nights in London and an impressive thirty nights in New York, including the fan-favorite Halloween shows known as Harryween. Additional stops include Amsterdam, São Paulo, Mexico City, Melbourne, and Sydney. Several special guests will join him in select cities, including Shania Twain, Robyn, Jorja Smith, Jamie xx, Fousheé, Skye Newman, and Fcukers.
