Almost Monday Brings the San Diego Sun to San Francisco, CA

Last Friday, indie-pop band almost monday played a sold out show in San Francisco, CA as part of their headline “DIVE” tour across North America. Dawson Daugherty (vocals), Cole Clisby (guitar) and Luke Fabry (bass) started the band in 2020, emerging from the local San Diego music scene. They’ve since gained over 600 million streams, with hit songs such as “sunburn”, “cough drops”, “parking lot view”, and more. After recently releasing their debut album DIVE, the San Diego native band is quickly gaining momentum and recognition for their indie-pop anthems.

Singer-songwriter Adrian Lyles kicked off the show with an energetic set of authentic, catchy pop tunes. He seemed to form an immediate connection with the audience, immediately drawing people’s attention and winning over the hearts of many. While teaching us the chorus to his song “Way Down”, he mentioned this is his first tour and he has been trying to establish a connection with the audience. His efforts were evident throughout the set and did not go unnoticed, as he interacted with multiple fans in the front and kept the audience hooked with his infectious energy.

The room was packed before almost monday took the stage, which was adorned with a colorful tapestry of a sun caricature. The band came out one by one, with lead singer Dawson taking the stage last and kicking off the show with some of their new songs, “dive”, “is it too late”, and “can’t slow down”. Dawson’s energy was infectious from the start, and even when confined by a small stage, still managed to dance his way around the available space.

They continued riding that wave of energy with some of their hit songs “cough drops” and “only wanna dance”. The crowd stayed fully engaged, clapping along to the catchy beat during “cough drops”. Dawson made sure to keep everyone involved throughout the show. He paused to thank everyone for coming before teaching us the opening part of the next song, “tidal wave”, creating a wholesome call and response moment.

“We want to take it back to our hometown San Diego,” said Dawson. The set transitioned into their 2023 single “coast to coast”, a chill track which almost transported listeners to a relaxing beach day. The band then transitioned into “sweet feelings”, another relaxing summer track. The last song in their sunny hometown, “seaside market”, was clearly a fan favorite, especially among the fans in the front row. They started jumping in sync and clapping along to the catchy beat, and even got the crowd to join them when they swayed their arms up to the chorus.

“Life goes by so fast and all we have are these moments right here, so I just want to say it was a pleasure spending it with you tonight,” said Dawson. “You’re letting us live our dreams so thank you guys so much.” They transitioned into the last song of the night “life goes by”, ending the show on a good note and with the crowd asking for more.

Dawson invited fans to come meet them at the merch stand after the show. A line of eager fans quickly formed and the amicable band took the time to meet every fan that night, taking photos with fans and signing merch, giving everyone a special moment to remember. The young band has a promising future ahead of them, and has proven to be a rising force in indie-pop. As they continue to bring their playful summer sound and authentic d.i.y show roots to their future shows and releases, the band is bound to become a household name in the indie music world.
